60% chance of a tropical cyclone near LA
MIAMI (AFP) - A low-pressure system off the coast of Louisiana has the potential to become a major storm, the US National Hurricane Center said Monday, in another possible blow to clean-up efforts for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
"There is a high chance -- 60 percent -- of this system becoming a tropical cyclone before it moved onshore," the NHC said, adding that high winds and heavy rainfall were likely over southern Louisiana.
