RANCE has denied cutting a deal with Iran to secure the release of a French teaching assistant who was charged with spying after last year's anti-government protests and held in Tehran for ten months.

Clotilde Reiss, 24, flew home to Paris yesterday after an Iranian court commuted concurrent five-year jail terms in return for payment of a £200,000 fine, and gave her back her passport.
